Pipe losses : A numerical study using Computational Fluid Dynamics

    Thumbnail
    Abstract
This report contains the results from the simulations done in STAR-CCM+ to predict pipe losses, including a validation case with straight smooth/rough pipes, and smooth pipes with 90 degree bends. Results show excellent validation of predicting the major loss coefficient of smooth/rough pipes with a percentage of error below 0.7. The results are compared with previous research papers and ultimately led to an equation, making the Reynolds number a parameter when calculating the minor loss coefficient for pipe bends.
